IaaC and MIT will teach for the first time in Barcelona Neil Gershenfeld's MIT Class: How to Make (Almost) Anything.
This is a three month workshop based on the Fab Lab philosophy: you can make (almost) anything inside a Fab Lab. The workshop will be run between Fab Lab Boston at South End Community Center and Fab Lab Barcelona at Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IaaC). Both locations will be permanently connected through videoconference.
Participants will get introductory lessons to use the the Fab Lab machinery, developing hands-on, practical projects every week. At the end of the workshop participants will be able to integrate all the processes into a final project.
The workshop will allow participants to develop projects based on digital modeling, digital fabrication, interactivity with electronic circuits, sensors and actuators and will teach how to recycle obsolete electronic devices for new functions.
The workshop will start on Tuesday 16th of October and after 8 weeks of classes and lab sessions will end with a final presentation that will gather together projects from Boston and Barcelona Fab Labs through videoconference.
Fab Lab Bcn
Fab Lab Bcn is a production, investigation and education centre, that uses digital last generation machines destined to the creation of prototypes and scale models for architecture, construction, industrial design and any activity that needs the connection from a computer to a machine to manipulate materials according to digital instructions. These technologies also allow to introduce in the material production, parametric design and manufacture of different elements without added cost, impelling this way, personal manufacture.
Fab Lab Bcn is part of the worldwide network of Fab Labs, an initiative of MIT Center for Bits and Atoms.
